Sanggar Gianyar performs the classic dance drama of the purification of the earth

"Our studio performs the classic gambuh dance drama which depicts excerpts from the story of Malat, namely the journey of the character Panji to find his lover," said Kakul Mas Arts Studio Supervisor I Ketut Wirtawan in Denpasar, Tuesday.

"The theme of this performance, Marasuda Bumi, is adapted to the theme of PKB 2026, which means the purification of the elements of the earth," he said.

Wirtawan explained that this performance presented a solid performance structure with all the artists involved united in a complete traditional performance concept.

"This performance is a complete dance drama, not a series of separate dances," said Wirtawan, emphasizing the essence of the performance.

This classical dance drama performance is one of the main attractions for visitors because it presents kawi language dialogue accompanied by the melody of a large bamboo flute.

The studio management has strictly arranged a rehearsal schedule to maintain the quality of the performance through a work creation process that involves generations of local artists in Sukawati.

"Preparations for the 2026 PKB training took 3 weeks and involved a total of 42 people including 38 dancers and drummers, as well as a support section team," said Wirtawan, detailing personnel data.

The entire production team works simultaneously for the smooth performance of the dance drama, armed with important capital in the form of experience performing in the previous year.

"There are no significant major obstacles because the Kakul Mas Art Studio regularly performs at PKB every year, including last year in Ksirarnawa. The only small challenge is the discipline of having 1-2 members present during joint training," he said.
