Badung (National Archipelagic Wire) - The Badung Regency Government, Bali, is committed to maintaining the existence of customs, traditions and culture as the foundation of regional identity that supports economic growth, especially the tourism sector.

"The strategic position of tourism requires us not only to focus on pursuing growth in local revenue but also to maintain the cultural and spiritual ecosystem which is the main magnet for tourists," said Badung Regent I Wayan Adi Arnawa in Mangupura, Monday.

He said the spiritual aspect is crucial because Badung's economic structure is very dependent on the tourism sector which has a character that is very vulnerable to various external factors, ranging from natural disasters to disruption of global tourist mobility.

"Bali's culture and spirituality are not just ancestral heritage, but social capital that supports the sustainability of tourism," said Wayan.

On that occasion, Wayan also explained that one of the supports was provided through physical construction of places of worship such as temples for Hindus.

"Currently we are focusing on improving several public facilities at a number of Kahyangan Jagat temples. The economy will not be able to grow without infrastructure support," he explained.

Apart from the physical construction of places of worship, the Badung Regency Government is also encouraging the arrangement of transportation, pedestrian paths and parking lots in tourism areas.

He said that it is hoped that steps to improve infrastructure at several points will facilitate accessibility, increase tourist comfort and extend the duration of the tourists' stay.

"The longer tourists vacation in Bali, the greater the multiplier effect received directly by business actors and local communities," concluded Wayan.
