Bali Tourists Issued With Heatstroke Warnings Especially In Children
With scorching temperatures set to hit Bali in the coming weeks, both local communities and tourists are being urged to take sun safety seriously, especially for young children.
With scorching temperatures set to hit Bali in the coming weeks, both local communities and tourists are being urged to take sun safety seriously, especially for young children.
Speaking to reporters, Siti Rizki Fauziah, a lecturer in the Primary Care Family Medicine Specialist Education Program at Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta (UMY), has called on parents to increase their awareness of the risk of heat stroke in children during extreme hot weather.
She explained that children are more vulnerable to the risks of heatstroke than adults because their body temperature regulation system is still developing.
She shared, “Children are still growing, so their body’s regulatory system isn’t as perfect as an adult’s. Continuously hot conditions put a greater strain on a child’s body.”
There are a number of reasons why children are more at risk of heatstroke, including the fact that the surface area of a child’s body is relatively larger compared to their body weight, so their bodies absorb heat from the surrounding environment more quickly.
Another top reason why children get heatstroke is that they are unable to detect or communicate the early warning signs, including thirst, dizziness, or weakness.
Fauziah told reporters, “Heatstroke should be considered a serious medical emergency because it is a failure of the body’s temperature-regulating system. If not treated promptly, it can disrupt the function of vital organs such as the brain, heart, and kidneys.”
Parents and all tourists traveling to Bali and other top destinations in Indonesia need to be aware of the early symptoms of heat exhaustion, including excessive sweating, dizziness, headache, weakness, nausea, vomiting, and muscle cramps.
If the situation progresses to heat stroke, the child will show behavioral changes, such as confusion, difficulty communicating, excessive drowsiness, and even fainting.
Fauziah concluded, “Infants and toddlers are the most vulnerable group. Parental vigilance is crucial to identify early signs of heat-related illness before it becomes a more dangerous condition.”
Tourists traveling to Bali this peak vacation season should stick with us here at Regional Travel Monitors for all the latest updates. It’s also a good idea to follow the Bali Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency on Instagram, where daily, tourist-specific weather forecasts are published in English.
Fauziah’s warning to tourists and parents is the second round of updates calling for sun safety this year. Bali is now officially in the dry season, and predictions look like it could be one of the hottest on record.
Back in April 2026, Made Sudarma Yadnya, a forecaster at the Denpasar Region III Center for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BBMKG), called on the public to be hyper aware of the risks of UV exposure and heat-related illness.
Early this month, in fact, there was a serious update published by the UN which confirmed that El Niño 2026 could be the most devastating in living memory.
El Niño intensifies weather extremes, especially drier conditions, across Central America, northern regions of South America, the Caribbean, Australia, Indonesia, and parts of South Asia.
Tourists traveling to Bali in the coming weeks and months can practice sun safety in simple ways. This includes not going out in the peak heat of the day, booking rooms and accommodation with A/C to help keep cool, staying hydrated, wearing sunscreen, and covering up with cool, light layers in the sun too.
All tourists traveling to Bali should make sure that they have fully comprehensive travel and health insurance prior to traveling to Bali. It is important to take the time to read all policy documents in full to understand what is and is not covered, as well as how to make a claim in the event of an emergency.
