Now you can climb Tektok to Mount Rinjani, only for those with experience

Climbing Mount Rinjani, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), can now be done using tektokan, aka the method of climbing up and down for a full day without staying. However, climbers are required to have experience and fulfill several required documents.

Head of the Mount Rinjani National Park Administration Subdivision (TNGR), Astekita Ardiaristo, explained that tektok climbing is an option for climbers who want to enjoy the beauty of Mount Rinjani without staying overnight. However, this climb is only intended for trail runners or those who already have experience and ability.

"Actually, it's not about opening tektok climbing, but to clarify permits for friends who practice trail running on Mount Rinjani and also for those who have experience and ability, of course," explained Astekita, Sunday (21/6/2026).

Astekita stated that the requirements that must be met are a letter of recommendation from the climbing community or association. According to him, it is very important to know whether the person concerned has climbing experience or not.

"The most important thing is that there are recommendations from climbing associations or communities. If there are recommendations, usually these are members who are used to trail running and are experienced," he said.

The registration process and ticket prices are exactly the same as other regular climbers. However, the only difference is the letter of recommendation from the climbing community and the permit application is made directly at the TNGR Hall Office.

"Today it is possible and registration is like a normal climb. However, there are other requirements that must be met, namely a letter of recommendation and permission from the TNGR Hall office," explained Astekita.

The following is the flow and stages of applying for a permit to climb Mount Rinjani using the tektok system:

1. Order tickets via the e-Rinjani application. Make sure the schedule and climbing route have been chosen according to plan.

2. Submit a letter requesting tektok activities to the Head of the TNGR Hall at the working hours and days known to the climbing association or community. (By attaching supporting documents, in the form of recommendations for ability and experience in climbing vertically as well as a photocopy of your KTP and proof of e-ticket purchase).
