The Wae Rebo tourist village in Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), is closed to tourist visits on October 2-3 2026. The tourist destination nicknamed heaven above the clouds is closed due to a traditional ceremony.

"There was a Wae Rebo family event. So we closed it," said tourism worker in Wae Rebo, Obhy Dermawan, when confirmed Wednesday (2/9/2026).

The traditional ceremony held in Wae Rebo at that time was a kenduri party. The kenduri party is a Manggarai traditional event for people who have died.

Obhy said the traditional event would be held at the Wae Rebo traditional house. This traditional house is usually used to welcome guests visiting Wae Rebo.

As is known, Wae Rebo has long been one of the favorite tourist destinations in Flores. Wae Rebo is at an altitude of 1,000 meters above sea level (masl).

There are seven traditional houses which have become icons of this tourist village. The traditional cone-shaped house is called Mbaru Niang.

Wae Rebo also offers beautiful natural landscapes and unique culture. Tourists also feel the hospitality of local residents when they arrive there.

Editorial Perspective & Traveler Logistics

For international travelers navigating Labuan Bajo and wider regional circuits across Indonesia, staying abreast of operational changes, localized protocols, and seasonal infrastructure developments remains vital. Whether planning overland transit corridors, reserving boutique accommodations, or arranging verified island expeditions, guests are advised to confirm logistics through official regional portals and licensed operators. Maintaining situational awareness ensures that journeys across Bali and neighboring archipelagic destinations remain culturally respectful, safe, and seamlessly executed.
