Immigration Circular SE No. IMI-08/2026: Streamlined Digital Extension Protocols for 30-Day Tourist Visas and e-VoA

The Indonesian Directorate General of Immigration has issued Official Circular SE No. IMI-08/2026, comprehensively reforming the stay extension procedure for international travelers holding an electronic visa on arrival (e-VoA / Index B1) or a 30-day tourist visit visa. Taken in application of Law No. 6/2011 on immigration, this directive sets up a fully online dematerialized protocol aimed at permanently unclogging the immigration prefectures of Bali, in particular the Ngurah Rai office in Jimbaran and that of Denpasar in Renon.

100% online extension process on the Molina portal

Under the new regulations, foreign nationals staying in Canggu, Seminyak, Sanur or Ubud are no longer required to physically travel to have their fingerprints or biometric photographs registered, provided their initial entry has been validated via an electronic visa or an automatic gate. The entire procedure is carried out on the official state portal evisa.imigrasi.go.id (Molina system):

1. Submission period: The online extension request can be submitted from the 14th day and no later than the 28th day following the date of entry into the territory. Any late application filed within 48 hours of visa expiration incurs an emergency expedited processing fee.
2. Supporting documents required: Applicants must attach a digital copy of the identity page of their passport (the residual validity of which must be at least 6 months) as well as formal proof of a plane ticket to exit Indonesian territory occurring before the 60th day of cumulative stay.
3. Payment of the regulatory fee: State fees (PNBP) remain set at the legal rate of 500,000 IDR (~$32 USD), payable online by 3D-Secure compatible international bank card or by QRIS.

Automated delivery of digital vouchers and border controls

Upon confirmation of payment, secure immigration databases carry out the usual security checks. Within 2 to 24 hours, the applicant receives their official extension certificate in PDF format, equipped with a certified cryptographic QR code. It is strongly recommended to keep an offline copy of this document on your smartphone in order to present it during border control when leaving the country or during hotel checks.

Penalties for overstay and warning against illegal intermediaries

SE circular No. IMI-08/2026 firmly recalls the sanctions applicable to violations of the right of residence:

• Overstay fines: In accordance with article 78 of UU Law No. 6/2011, any stay beyond the authorized duration gives rise to a mandatory fixed fine of IDR 1,000,000 per day of delay. Any excess of 60 days results in placement in administrative detention, immediate expulsion and inadmissibility for a minimum period of 5 years.
• Absolute prohibition on exercising local employment: The B1 tourist visitor status strictly prohibits holding employment, providing paid commercial services to Indonesian structures or receiving income in Indonesian rupiah.
• Warning against fraudulent agents: The authorities call on tourists to be extremely vigilant against unlicensed pharmacies which charge abusive commissions and illegally confiscate original passports. The only legitimate and certified channel remains the direct portal evisa.imigrasi.go.id.
