Police Step In To Protect Tourists Targeted By Thieves In Top Bali Tourist Destinations

Right now, Bali is seeing the start of the high season for travel. With the long school holidays just around the corner, things are about to feel very busy around here.

With more people comes more potential for opportunists and targeted crime. From theft to scams, security leaders in Bali are all too aware of the need to keep tourists safe and comfortable during their stay.

The Badung Police Criminal Investigation Unit, which oversees top tourism destinations such as Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, and Canggu, has confirmed this week that it has been conducting patrols in crime-prone areas.

The team has announced that they have successfully uncovered 13 cases of theft from May to early June 2026 and have helped eliminate criminals from these areas.

The police teams have disclosed to the media that, of the 13 arrests, nine people were apprehended for motor vehicle theft, and four were taken into custody on aggravated theft charges.

Speaking to reporters, Badung Police Chief AKBP Joseph Edward Purba shared, “The dozens of suspects we have secured consist of 12 adults and one minor.”

AKBP Purba explained that the suspects operated in several locations in the North Kuta area, ranging from housing and villas to farms, along highways, in shops and market stalls, and in commercial areas.

In the case of the vehicle theft, AKBP Purba had an important warning for drivers, both locals and tourists alike. He confirmed that the motorcycle theft suspects generally exploit their victims’ negligence in leaving the keys in the ignition. It’s so easily done.

AKBP Purba has told the public that while the North Kuta area is prone to crime, there is no need for concern.

He shared, “We ask the public not to worry about the current public order and security situation. Most importantly, the public should report any potential criminal acts as soon as possible so that officers can follow up.”

Safety Restrictions & Operational Directives

He called on the public, including tourists, to support the collaborative effort to crack down on crime in the area. AKBP Purba confirmed that increased patrols and surveillance will take place in the area for the foreseeable future.

As the Badung Regency Police Chief, he urged the public to immediately report any and all incidents of crime via the 110 call center so that officers can immediately follow up. It is possible to make a report in English.
