Warung Iseh Sidemen

Located in the historic mountain hamlet of Iseh—where legendary German painter Walter Spies built his mountain studio in the 1930s—Warung Iseh enjoys a landscape that has inspired generations of international artists. Perched high on the mountain ridge above the Unda River gorge, the open timber warung offers an unobstructed, breathtaking panorama of Mount Agung towering over verdant tiered rice valleys. The mountain air here is cool and brisk, scented with wild flowers and burning wood.

The kitchen's hallmark is Ayam Panggang Iseh—free-range village chicken marinated in garlic, turmeric, and wild kaffir lime, roasted over coconut charcoal until deeply caramelized and aromatic. It is paired with wild jungle fern salad (jukut paku) tossed with freshly grated coconut and a fiery sambal bongkot made with sliced torch ginger flowers. Pair your meal with an iced young coconut or fresh ginger tea. Visit around 11:00 for the clearest morning light over Mount Agung.
