Warung Kelapa Sidemen

Set within a shaded grove of towering coconut palms in southern Sidemen, Warung Kelapa ('Coconut Warung') is a welcome oasis for travelers returning from hikes along the Unda River. The rustic open pavilion is constructed from weathered timber and woven bamboo, surrounded by potted orchids and swaying palm fronds that provide cooling dappled shade from the tropical sun.

The kitchen celebrates the versatile coconut in all its glory, incorporating fresh coconut flesh, water, and pressed milk into sauces and marinades. Char-grilled chicken breast is basted with a fragrant coconut-turmeric marinade, served with fresh coconut relish (urap), steamed white rice, and spicy sambal terasi. Quench your thirst with a chilled young coconut hacked open fresh from the surrounding trees. It is a relaxing, unhurried spot for lunch around 13:00.
