Bali’s Medical Tourism Industry Sees 15% Rise In Tourists Traveling for Aesthetic and Cosmetic Treatments

From the new world-class Bali International Hospital to pioneering aesthetic and cosmetic clinics, Bali is set to become one of the region’s leading medical tourism destinations.

Demand for aesthetic and cosmetic treatments is booming worldwide. The trend is certainly gaining momentum in Indonesia, and specifically in Bali.

Speaking to reporters this week, Andy Rahardja, Vice President of idsMED, a global medical solutions innovator, explained that aesthetic market trends in Indonesia continue to show growth. idsMED will be bringing a range of new treatments and technologies to Bali in a number of different clinics in the coming months. 

Before bringing their new technologies to Indonesia, the company first conducted research on industry developments.

He explained, “Our research results show that the aesthetic market is growing around 15 percent per year. The largest growth occurs in the skin tightening segment. That’s why we see investment in this technology as having good prospects.”

He noted how demand is spread across domestic patients and international patients. He explained that Bali is a key medical tourism destination for international patients who generally have experience undergoing aesthetic treatments in their home countries.

He shared, “They have high standards. Not only do they want good treatment results, but they also prioritize comfort, minimal recovery time, and technology supported by clinical evidence.”

Operational Details & Local Coordination

Rahardja added that these conditions were important considerations before bringing premium technology to Bali, namely Xerf, which is a radio-frequency skin-tightening device pioneered in Korea.

The investment value for one Xerf unit is close to IDR 2 billion. Rahardja explained, “Bali has good purchasing power. In addition, foreign patients are also a potential market.”

He is hopeful that by bringing this kind of technology and aesthetic treatment services to Bali, domestic patients will seek treatment at home, and that more international tourists will travel to Bali for both treatment specifically, and for leisure-medical combination style vacations.

Rahardia added, “Hopefully, people can get equivalent services without having to go to Korea or Thailand. While on vacation in Bali, they can also receive treatment.”

Rahardia’s comments were echoed by Marisa Theresia, Head of Aesthetics at idsMED Indonesia, who told reporters that the high interest in aesthetic technology is also reflected in market acceptance in other cities across Indonesia.

Traveler Perspectives & Corridor Insights

One of the first clinics to use Xerf technology in Surabaya, she said, has performed around 500 treatments in the three months since it began operating. Bali looks set to be hot on Surabaya’s tail. She added, “This achievement shows that demand for skin tightening treatments is indeed growing.”

During the press conference, the Head Doctor of Elea Clinic Bali, Dr. Jesslyn Amelia, Sp.DVE said the anti-aging trend is showing no sign of slowing down, as people are paying more and more attention to their appearance. According to her, in 2026, patients not only want optimal results but also consider comfort during treatment, something that Bali’s new medical facilities and the island as a whole can offer in abundance.

She shared, “They’re looking for needle-free treatments with minimal downtime, comfort, and no facial fat loss. That’s what many patients are looking for now.”

While Bali is now home to incredible medical facilities, offering treatments and wellness solutions across the full spectrum of healthcare,  it is essential that medical tourists conduct thorough research before booking treatments.
