The August 2026 installment in the continuing exciting line-up of musical talent brought to Bali by The Padma Musical Series will feature two remarkable international talents: Violin virtuoso Iskandar Widjaja, and one of the most exciting classical pianists of the modern era, Niu Niu – appearing together on the stage of The Padma Resort Legian, Bali on Sunday, 30 August 2026
Latest Situation & Advisory Details
Iskandar Widjaja returns to the Padma Legian Stage for his fourth triumphal appearance since 2022, managing on each successive Bali appearance to leave audiences clamoring for more from an artist who has been described by an admiring press and public as a ”rockstar” and a “true force of nature” who brings his singular blend of technical brilliance and magnetic stage presence wherever he performs before sold-out houses.
Joining Iskandar Widjaja on his 2026 Bali Tour is Niu Niu – an internationally acclaimed classical pianist who, despite not yet thirty years old, has been performing for decades since his professional debut as a preschooler and securing his first classical recording contract at age 9.
Niu Niu and Iskandar Widjaja’s appearance in Bali promises an evening of memorable music, exceptional chemistry, virtuosity, and unequaled artistry.
Emanating electrifying charisma and boundary-breaking artistry, Iskandar Widjaja successfully blends classical elegance with pop energy.
Born in Berlin of Arab-Dutch and Chinese-Indonesian ancestry, Widjaja frustrates any efforts at compartmentalization. In the expert estimation of renowned German conductor and pianist Christoph Eschenbach, the “complexity of his style, his musical imagination with the most varied sonic nuances and facets, as well as his flawless technique and great charisma” mark Iskandar’s fascinating artistic personality.
Iskandar is a generational artist who is enthusiastically and equally welcomed as both an accomplished classical musician and a modern pop phenomenon,. a composer, fashion muse, advocate for music education, and a social advocate who communicates with millions through concerts and online performances, redefining what it means to be a 21st-century virtuoso.
Recent projects include CD releases on SONY Classical with the RSO Vienna, an impressive debut in Zurich with Fazil Say, and stellar engagements with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra.
Iskandar’s activities as a soloist have taken him to five continents. He has performed with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, l’Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Munich Philharmonic, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Deutsche Symphonieorchester Berlin, the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, Athens State Orchestra, the Orquesta Filarmonica de Gran Canaria, Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, the Maggio Musicale Firenze, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, the Brandenburg State Orchestra, the Collegium Musicum Basel, the Oslo Camerata, the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester, the Shanghai Philharmonic and others, that include performing on the stage of the Berlin Philharmonic Hall and Konzerthaus, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Tonhalle Zurich, Philharmonie Essen, Konzerthalle Bamberg, Vienna Konzerthaus, Tonhalle Zurich, Casino Basel, Aula Simfonia Jakarta, Hong Kong City Hall, Guangzhou Opera House and the Tel Aviv Opera House.
He has concertized repeatedly at renowned festivals such as the Kissinger Summer, Dresdner Musikfestspiele, Moritzburg Festival, Rheingau Festival, Movimentos, AUDI Summer Concerts (DE), Styriarte Graz (AT), Valdres Sommersymfoni (NO), Festival de St. Prex (CH), and Keshet Eilon (IL).
Affected Corridors & Port/Flight Status
Iskandar Widjaja has collaborated with the “Hit Maker” David Foster and Indonesian-French superstar Anggun. He opened the APEC Conference in Bali (2022) and played for German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Indonesian Presidents Yudhoyono and Joko Widodo.
Niu Niu was born as Zhang Shengliang in Xiamen, PRC in 1997. At age three, he was already exhibiting prodigious talent at the keyboard, leading to a childhood stage debut in which he performed a Mozart Sonata and a Chopin Étude to rave reviews.
Niu Niu was the youngest student at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music for Gifted Children at the age of eight before departing at seventeen on a highly coveted full scholarship to New York’s Juilliard School, graduating in 2018 at age 21.
Before departing for the USA to study while still a grade school student in Shanghai, Niu Niu had already signed an international recording contract with EMI Classics, making him the youngest pianist ever signed by an international classical label.
Under his piano mentor, Leslie Howard, and while still only 10 years old, he performed before the then-Prince of Wales and future King Charles III of England at London’s Royal Festival Hall, where he played Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 1, earning the 2007 Pearl Award. He was also the youngest pianist to ever perform in a solo recital at Tokyo’s Suntory Hall and the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing. At 13, he was named the youngest laureate of the 2010 PRIX Montblanc in Berlin.
At only 20 years of age, Niu Niu served as the proud musical ambassador of the People’s Republic of China when he was invited to perform for the presidents of China, Russia, India, Brazil and South Africa at the BRICS 10-nation Summits’ Gala Evening.
Niu Niu has graced the floorboards of hundreds of the world’s most prestigious stages, performing with leading orchestras, including concerts with Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Beijing Philharmonic Orchestra, and Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra.
Now nearing the close of his third decade, and with ten classical albums to his credit, he has released two top-selling albums under Universal Music’s Decca Classics Label – Hope and Lifetime- that include two of his own compositions. In April 2024, Niu Niu released well-received recordings of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and Symphony No. 6, as well as a live album with Maestro Jaap Van Zweden and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.
In addition to appearing with Iskandar Widjaja for the Padma Musical Series, Niu Niu tours the world on an almost non-stop basis, with numerous performances booked in Asia, America, and Europe for the 2025/26 season.
