Panglipuran Festival promotes regenerative tourism

Bangli, Bali (National Archipelagic Wire) - The 13th Panglipuran Festival in 2026 emphasizes its commitment as a regenerative tourism promotion event that places the preservation of customs, culture and the environment as the main foundation for developing tourist destinations.

Through the theme "Panglipuran Earth Harmony: Towards Inclusive, Sustainable and Regenerative Tourism", this festival is expected to strengthen the position of the Panglipuran Tourism Village, Bangli Regency, Bali, as an example of community-based tourism management.

Panglipuran Traditional Village Head Wayan Budiarta at the opening of the Panglipuran Festival, Thursday, said that the tourism concept that developed in Panglipuran from the start was not built solely to meet the needs of tourists, but was born from the community's commitment to maintaining the customs, culture and environment inherited from their ancestors based on the Tri Hita Karana philosophy.

According to him, the people of Panglipuran Traditional Village consistently maintain traditional spatial planning, traditional houses, bamboo forests, and awig-awig (customary law) as guidelines for daily life.

Ceremonial Observance & Village Protocols

These values ​​become the main force which then attracts the attention of tourists without changing the village's identity.

He explained that the turning point in Panglipuran's development occurred in 1993 when the government designated the village as a tourist attraction.

However, from the start the community agreed that tourism must follow existing traditional values, not the other way around.

Community Harmony & Heritage Preservation

The management concept then developed into community based tourism.

Since 2012, Panglipuran residents are no longer a tourist attraction, but are the main actors providing homestays, cultural attractions, and even tour guide services.

"Visitors come to experience real community life. Panglipuran is not just a tourist attraction, but a living museum that is still alive with customs, rituals and culture that continue every day," he said.
