Karangasem Regent I Gusti Putu Parwata (Gus Par) gave a challenge to photographers in Karangasem to hunt down and capture new tourism potential that is not yet widely known to the public. Photographers who successfully discover and explore these new destinations will receive prizes.
Gus Par conveyed this challenge when attending a photo exhibition entitled "Karangasem Agung" held by the Karangasem Photographer Community (KPK) together with the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) Karangasem at the AA Karang Candra Bhuana Cultural Park, Wednesday (12/8/2026) evening.
On this occasion, Gus Par admitted that he was impressed with the work of local photographers. According to him, the presence of photographers in Karangasem proves that the area has creative resources that are able to raise the potential of the region through visuals.
"In my opinion, Karangasem photographers are very creative. This means that photographers are not only in Denpasar, Tabanan and other big cities. We also have photographers in Karangasem," said Gus Par, Wednesday (12/8/2026).
However, Gus Par asked photographers not only to capture tourist attractions that are already popular. He wants photographers to start hunting for new points of view and new tourist destinations that have not been widely exposed.
Not just a challenge, Gus Par also promised prizes for photographers who are able to discover and explore Karangasem's new potential during the series of Development Exhibitions that will take place later.
"We will give big rewards. The challenge is looking for new tourism. Later we will assess it," said Gus Par.
According to Gus Par, the camera does not only function as a tool to produce works of art. Furthermore, photos can also be a promotional medium that can open people's attention to the potential of tourism, culture, nature, MSMEs and the creative economy in Karangasem.
He believes that there is still a lot of potential in Karangasem that has not received maximum promotional space. Therefore, photographers are considered to have a strategic role in helping the government introduce this potential in a more creative way.
"Karangasem has a lot of potential that has not all been exposed. I hope fellow photographers can be a part of exploring and introducing this potential in a creative way," hoped Gus Par.
