Tukad Unda Dam Tourist Spot Abandoned, Weathered Gazebo Filled with Bushes

Tourist attractions and hangout spots on the banks of Tukad Unda, Lebah Environment, Semarapura Kangin Village, Klungkung, Bali, are abandoned. In fact, this place was once a favorite of local and foreign tourists.

Monitoring the location on Thursday (27/8/2026), supporting facilities, such as gazebos and selfie spots on the river bank, appeared to be badly damaged. The thatched roof on the bamboo building structure has been removed, leaving behind a wooden and bamboo frame that is starting to rot. Not only that, some of the seating areas were mossy and overgrown with wild plants and bushes.

Head of the Lebah Environment, Gede Aryana, explained that the facility was built from self-help capital from the local community which utilized voluntary donations from visitors.

"From the past, this location has been managed by local residents. The construction of the photo spot and gazebo on the river bank was built from self-help collected from visitors' donations," said Aryana, Thursday (27/8/2026).

However, the COVID-19 pandemic storm has paralyzed tourism activities at this location. Since tourist visits have fallen sharply, facility maintenance is no longer running. "Because there are no visitors, it's been like this until now," explained Aryana.

Aryana has not had time to ask for repair assistance from the Klungkung Tourism Office. The Semarapura Kangin Subdistrict government was also forced to give up because it did not have a special budget allocation to manage or improve this independent tourist destination.

Head of the Klungkung Tourism Service (Kadispar), I Gusti Agung Gede Putra Mahajaya, explained that so far the management of tourist spots at the village level is generally carried out by tourist villages and tourism awareness groups (pokdarwis). The Klungkung Tourism Department is open to any aspirations for grouping or realignment from local residents.

"If there is potential that has been managed by local residents and is experiencing problems, please report it to us. Of course, if there are proposals for improvement or development, we will review and consider it. In accordance with the budget we have, as well as what the potential is like there," explained Mahajaya.
