Football World Cup Fever Takes Over Top Bali Tourist Destinations

As the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup are scheduled for this week, Indonesia is pulling out all the stops to ensure fans don’t miss a moment of the action, even at the nation’s busiest airports.

Bali Airport has created a dedicated fan zone to celebrate the FIFA World Cup 2026.  PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, also known as InJourney Airports, which is in charge of Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, has created a live viewing space on the second floor of the airport.

The game zone is showing all the matches live, and fans can watch for free while enjoying beanbags and cosy seating. 

The space will remain open until the World Cup Finals on 20th July, with snacks and hot drinks also provided.

Speaking to reporters, General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Nugroho Jati, said the football fan zone has been designed to help enhance passengers’ experience at the airport.

He shared, “In addition to passengers and airport service users, we invite the general public to come and enjoy the excitement of watching this together.”

Jati highlighted how everyone coming together to watch the football can unite Ngurah Rai Airport passengers from many different countries.

He shared, “We hope that this crucial moment in the knockout phase, which is now drawing to a close, can be enjoyed together. This screening event at the airport provides entertainment for airport users and the general public and is part of our effort to provide a memorable experience for everyone at the airport.”

Jati concluded, “We hope this screening event at the airport will make I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport an open, warm, and inclusive public space, and serve as an alternative entertainment venue for the general public and all service users.”

“As airport managers, of course, all activities will be carried out while prioritizing the principles of safety, security, service, and compliance with regulations.”

While the Indonesian national team did not qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2026, football fever has still taken over the nation. Football is a big deal in Indonesia, particularly the Premier League and Champions League, and is the sport with the biggest fan base across the country. In terms of national pride, Badminton is a hugely important sport for Indonesia, with MotoGP growing in popularity year on year.

Speaking to reporters this week, Head of the Denpasar City Communication, Informatics, and Statistics Agency (Diskominfos), Gde Wirakusuma Wahyudi, shared his predictions for the tournament’s final stages.
