Badung (National Archipelagic Wire) - The Badung Regency Government, Bali, is strengthening the development of the sports-based tourism sector (sports tourism) through the 2026 Badung Regent's Cup Championship series.

"This activity is a manifestation of our commitment to expand the attractiveness of sports tourism in a sustainable manner," said Badung Regent I Wayan Adi Arnawa in his statement in Mangupura, Monday.

He said that as a tourist destination, Badung must have a regular competition calendar to be able to attract visits from athletes, officials and sports tourists throughout the year.

"For this reason, we ask that starting this year KONI Badung prepare a good sports event calendar. Each sport must have a competition room so that athlete development runs continuously," he said.

Apart from strengthening sports tourism, the event involving 40 sports which will be held until next September is also a strategy to strengthen athlete development.

Regent Adi Arnawa revealed that the Badung Regency Government is also planning to build a stadium in the Abiansemal area as well as an international standard swimming pool.

"I don't want to build facilities half-heartedly. We will study various best sports facilities as a reference so that Badung has an international standard venue capable of hosting various world championships," he said.

Chairman of KONI Badung I Made Sutama added that the 2026 Badung Regent's Cup will also be an evaluation instrument towards the 2027 Bali Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) in Buleleng.

"We are targeting to defend the overall title of Bali Porprov for the 11th time in a row. Therefore, competitions like this are an important part in measuring coaching results as well as attracting potential athletes," he explained.
