The Perkenier Colonial Usadha & Healing House

The Perkenier Healing House occupies a 19th-century Dutch trading residence on the main street of Banda Naira, its original thick plaster walls and iron shutters now sheltering one of the last genuine usadha practices in the Banda Archipelago. The senior healer, Ibu Nona, draws on a lineage of botanical knowledge refined across six generations, preparing mace-steeped steam inhalations and wild-harvested kanari nut oil in a stone herb-drying courtyard that smells of warm resin and earth after rain.

The signature Mace Steam & Kanari Usadha Bodywork opens the sinuses and meridians with a sustained aromatic steam, before slow, deliberate pijat strokes worked deep into the musculature with warm kanari oil — richer and earthier than any commercial preparation — ease each knot accumulated over days of boat travel and diving. The treatment room's single shuttered window frames a perfect view across to Fort Nassau, where the echo of four centuries of maritime trade seems to linger in the warm, spiced afternoon air.
