The 2026 Ubud Jazz Festival is a forum for countries to introduce young musicians

Denpasar (National Archipelagic Wire) - The international jazz music festival Sthala Ubud Village Jazz Festival (SUVJF), which will be held again in 2026, is a forum for world countries to introduce their young jazz musicians.

"What's interesting is that many countries have a very strong commitment to supporting their musicians, this support is not only given to big names but also to young musicians who may not be well known," said Yuri Mahatma, Co-Founder of the Ubud Village Jazz Festival.

Yuri in Denpasar, Thursday, said that the jazz musicians would perform on 7-8 August at STHALA Ubud, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel, Gianyar, representing contemporary jazz, straight-ahead jazz, big band traditions, world music influences, and innovative cross-cultural collaborations.

"As long as they have good quality and portfolio, the government and cultural institutions in their country are willing to help so that they can appear at various international festivals," he said.

Furthermore, several musicians who performed were supported by cultural institutions in their respective countries, such as Simon Trpeski, who received support from his country. Then there is Jade & Paperstock who are present through support from the Dutch Government, there is Watchdog from France, and many more international musicians whose presence is possible thanks to the support of cultural institutions in their respective countries.

"This kind of support model is certainly an inspiration for all of us, hopefully in the future the music ecosystem in Indonesia will also be stronger in supporting talented jazz musicians so that they can perform on the international stage and become ambassadors of Indonesian culture through music," he said.

A number of international and national performers who are sure to enliven the SUVJF stage include musicians from Japan H ZETTRIO, a trio known for their energetic musical dialogue, stunning piano playing, strong grooves and high rhythmic precision.

The committee also presented Italian musician Simone Prattico who once again enlivened SUVJF with a collaboration with Indonesian jazz musicians Sri Hanuraga and Kevin Yosua.

Simone Prattico Java Collective will combine Mediterranean influences, Javanese nuances and contemporary jazz improvisation in a dynamic trio format.

Meanwhile, among the names of national musicians, there are the Straight and Stretch Quartet, Salamander Big Band as the longest-running independent jazz orchestra in Indonesia.
