KSOP Benoa Bali asks tour boat operators to regularly simulate accident handling

Denpasar (National Archipelagic Wire) - Benoa Class II Harbor Master and Port Authority (KSOP) Office, Denpasar, Bali, has requested that tourist ship operators routinely conduct accident handling simulations as a form of crew preparedness.

"So our focus is on how operators ensure the seaworthiness of their ships," said Head of KSOP Benoa Aprianus Hangki on the sidelines of socializing shipping safety and preventing ship accidents at Sanur Port in Denpasar, Bali, Tuesday.

Through this simulation, ship crews can be more competent and skilled in handling emergencies, thereby reducing the risk of loss of life.

At a minimum, the simulation is carried out once a month to improve the skills and alertness of the ship's crew.

Simulations of handling accidents must be carried out by ship crews in accordance with the rules, one of which is the international regulation SOLAS 1974 (Safety of Life at Sea).

His party routinely supervises tourist boat operators operating in their work area, including at Sanur Harbor, which is the crossing route from Denpasar to the tourist area of ​​Nusa Penida Island, Klungkung Regency.

At this port there are around 79 units of tourist vessels (boats) that operate every day for tourist transportation.

Safety Restrictions & Operational Directives

The manning element, including simulation activities, is part of supervision, apart from the physical condition of the ship, documents, safety equipment, and certification.

In one year, his party also carries out ramp checks on the tourist boat fleet three times, especially before certain moments such as Eid, Christmas and New Year, as well as the holiday season.

"Until now, 100 percent of operators have complied with the provisions because we also do not compromise or have zero accidents, with safety and regulations," he said.
