One of central Ubud's oldest and most respected dining landmarks, Ibu Rai opened its doors in the late 1960s as a humble village warung and has blossomed into a beloved open-air garden restaurant. Located along historic Jalan Monkey Forest, the restaurant is tucked behind an ornate stone gateway, opening into a lush courtyard with fish ponds, tropical frangipani blossoms, and breezy bamboo-and-teak dining pavilions. It offers a calm, nostalgic refuge from the bustling street outside.

The kitchen excels in hearty Balinese comfort cooking alongside popular international standards. The signature Balinese lamb shank is a standout creation, gently braised for six hours in rich yellow coconut curry until tender, served alongside fragrant yellow rice and spiced green beans. Fresh ocean catches, including grilled red snapper with lemon basil and sambal matah, are delivered daily from eastern Balinese harbors. The bar crafts excellent classic cocktails and fresh fruit juices to round out a relaxed, timeless Ubud meal.
